Umut Fırtına Kıral is a composer who merges orchestral and electronic elements with minimalist and evolving textures to compose engaging music. Focusing on building worlds and telling a story, his music aims to enhance storytelling and elicit strong emotions. With influences from various musical genres and being deeply inspired by various aesthetic philosophies, he explores the subtle interplay between structure and spontaneity, aiming to craft immersive and contemplative experiences that evoke introspection and depth.
Fırtına has worked on a broad range of projects, from designing sounds and creating installations for photography exhibitions to corporate audio branding, composing for dance projects and festivals. Some recent projects include sound design for Louis Vuitton Foundation, an immersive experience for photographer Tolga Ünsün's exhibition, composition for Evren Kayar's jewellery campaign, commissioned pieces for a Netherlands based saxophone sextet and a solo piano work for the 58th Spring Festival, Den Haag.
Fırtına's passion for composing started at a young age during his studies, writing short pieces for various settings while being active as a jazz and pop drummer in Istanbul. His journey into the world of media music began at 21, when his short compositions and sound designs were used on various installations, videos and online works. In 2025, he received his MA from Royal Conservatoire Den Haag, specialising in composition, orchestration and sound design, graduating with the prestigious Excellence Scholarship and receiving the Corendon Funds. He also received endorsement deals from Istanbul Agop Cymbals and Vater Drumsticks.
Fırtına currently lives in Den Haag with his wife and son.
