Fırtına Kıral is a composer, drummer, producer and arranger based between Istanbul and The Hague.
Fırtına centers his artistic output around his career as a composer and drummer. As a composer, he draws from jazz, classical music and electronics, resulting in an output of music for concert settings, film, television, advertising, video games, live productions and interdisciplinary projects. As a drummer, drawing on a long-standing background in jazz and a broad experience across different musical settings, he has worked and currently workings with artists and ensembles such as Cenk Erdoğan, CRR Big Band, Will Brahm, Ceylan Ertem, Selda Bağcan and Elif Sanchez just to name a few, in both live performance and studio environments. He continues to develop his career in both aspects in the European and Turkish music scene.
Additionally, Kıral approaches music as a multidisciplinary practice, combining his background as a drummer and composer with arranging, production and sound design. He creates original music and arrangements, develops sonic identities and sound design for creative studios and interdisciplinary projects, collaborating with artists, advertising agencies, choreographers, directors and brands. His work moves fluidly between the recording studio, screen, concert hall and theatres, treating each medium as an extension of the same musical practice.
Recent projects include music for the Louis Vuitton Foundation via Brawhaus Paris; production of Rift, a soundtrack for a sci-fi universe; The Portrait, Meditations and a Distant Land, a suite for a large ensemble; a spatial composition for 12 metronomes and a chamber ensemble titled Meditations no. II, commissioned works for ViV Woodwind Quintet and KonCon Saxophone Ensemble, a solo piano work for the 58th Spring Festival in The Hague, original music for a jewellery campaign by Evren Kayar and Invisible Cities, an immersive composition for Balkan Karisman's video art presented in Istanbul and Barcelona.
Born in Istanbul in 1993, Kıral studied Composition, Production and Sound Technologies at Kingston University London and Istanbul Bilgi University, and holds a Master's degree in Jazz Composition from the Royal Conservatoire Den Haag, where he was awarded the Excellence Scholarship and Corendon Funds. He is endorsed by Istanbul Agop Cymbals and Vater Drumsticks.
